La Collina d’Oro is located on the border of Tuscany, Lazio and Umbria, and is surrounded by nature reserves and historical towns. La Collina d’Oro is part of Tuscia, the region where houses and castles of the Augustea period along with captivating medieval villages stand between the Tyrrhenian Sea. The location of La Collina d’Oro makes it possible to explore Cities like Florence, Siena, Montepulciano and Rome, or plan a day visit to the coast or Monte Argentario. Nature

La Collina d’Oro is surrounded by the beauty of the Italian landscape. The Tuscan hills provide a home to animals including deers, boars, porcupines and badgers. While swimming or walking in the garden, falcons fly over, and fawns of deer run through the wheat fields. La Collina D’Oro has magnificent views, with the sun rising from the castle of Proceno and setting behind the Monte Amiata. The protected Monte Rufeno Nature Reserve is located behind the hills of the estate. The 3,000-hectare nature reserve has a great diversity of plants and animals, which makes it perfect for hiking.

Proceno

The Town of Proceno, which the estate overlooks, has around 600 inhabitants and dates back to the year 1000. The castle of Proceno has a central from which the unique landscape can be viewed from Monte Amiata and Radicofani, to the Valley of the Paglia. Proceno is famous for its cultivation of red garlic, for the high quality extra virgin olive oil and for the Alto Viterbese IGP potatoes. There are many Renaissance buildings of great value, including the Sforza palace, dating from the sixteenth century. The Sforza place can be found on the main square of the town near the gelateria. The 1,000-year-old castle is Proceno’s landmark. The castle’s tower houses the private museum of the lady of the castle. Its restaurant offers the best selection of Italian food and exquisite wine having earned a Michelin star. In summer, dinner is served in the carriage house of garden, overlooking the gardens.

Region

Unesco heritage site Val d’Orcia is 27 km away, located behind Monte Amiata. The area is particularly famous for its beautiful landscape with hills covered with vineyards, cypresses, wheat fields and farms or small villages.

Lake Bolsena is 32 km away and is the largest volcanic lake in Europe. Charter a boat and visit the islands of Martana and Bisentina. Archaeological traces of the Etruscans and Romans can be found on Bisentina.

Montepulciano is located on one of Tuscany’s highest hills 48 km from the estate. World-famous for its wines and the Piazza Grande overlooking the entire region.

Siena is 86 km from the estate. Siena is the embodiment of a medieval city. The whole city of Siena, built around the Piazza del Campo, was devised as a work of art that blends into the surrounding landscape.

Florence and Rome are 160 km from the estate. Breakfast at Piazza del Duomo in Florence or visiting the Colosseum in Rome can be combined with dinner prepared by the estate’s private chef.

The Tuscan coast and Monte Argentario is 95 km from the estate. Monte Argentario is a magnificent headland surrounded by the sea and connected to the coast by two artificial strips of land.The peninsula is full of small fishing ports and beautiful bays.
